Want to share a success story...Purchased a new-in-box VES unit on ebay (dual screen, two headsets, remote, manual, etc...)...dealer installed it yesterday. I was out the door for under $800 (unit+installation)...and it works great!!!!
The dealer quoted me a price of $300 for the install...and the service manager said the tech had a difficult time getting the computer to accept the unit and turn on the VES...but it eventually worked.
I had earlier purchased (and installed myself) an RER nav radio...
Life is good!

problems with my upgrade

starliner53,

glad to hear yours went off with no problems. I tried the same upgrade with my 08 T&C Touring RES radio, but I ordered the 9" screens, which I believe are an 09 option.

I did the install myself but took the van to the dealer to have them add the factory remote start I bought at the same time as the VES, and activate the VES.

Remote start install was accomplished without incident but the tech had a great deal of difficulty in trying to get the ECU to recognise the VES.

In the end, I was returned the van and told to "fiddle with it" and see if the van recognised the VES.

I had already purchased a Lockpick to install to unlock my RES radio and so after I installed it, the VES worked. See the Lockpick here:
http://www.mofv.com/mygig/MyGIGLockPick.htm

I removed the Lockpick and VES was gone from the radio.

Over the next few days, I re-installed and re-removed the Lockpick numerous times and occasionally the VES would activate but would be gone the next time I started the van.

My next idea is to go back to the dealer and have them re-initialize the ECU for the VES.

Sorry for the length....

That's interesting that your van wouldn't recognize the VES without the lockpick...The tech at my local dealership worked for about 3-4 hours before getting computer to finally accept it...The tech's name is Roger Bloomfield, and he works at Friendly Chrysler in Lapeer, Michigan (810-664-2900). I had the installation on February 15th......maybe your tech could contact him...
